IDE President Dvash: Improvement at HK Show

"When we see demand in the East, as we saw at the Hong Kong show, which is undoubtedly the barometer of the state of the markets in Asia, everybody knows it affects the mood in global markets," said Yoram Dvash.

The Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show, which ended on March 4, was positive for buyers and exhibitors.

The Hong Kong International Jewellery Show ends today.

IDE President Yoram Dvash, who attended the event, summarizes his impressions from the largest diamond show in the world.

"The show this year was good, not like 3 or 4 years ago, but certainly better than last year's event. Similar to last year, many buyers came to the fair this year, but unlike previous exhibits where there was a massive presence of Indian buyers, this year one saw an impressive number of buyers from China and from many other countries in the Far East," he commented. The Minister of Economy of Hong Kong also visited the show, he said.

According to Dvash, the significant presence of buyers from the East "is evidence of the improvement in diamond markets in Asia". He also said that the show overall was positive. "As with all such shows, there are goods that sold well and goods that didn't sell as well, and that is natural."

In meetings he held with heads of diamond exchanges and companies in Hong Kong, they praised the International Diamond Week held in Israel last month, and expressed optimism about growth in the diamond markets in the East. Dvash added that he reached agreement with other diamond bourses who exhibited at the show to send a letter to show organizers not to allow synthetic diamond companies to exhibit their stones next to exhibitors of natural diamonds in the future.
