Lucara Sells 224.5-Carat Diamond For $11.1Million

In total, the firm generated income of $38.7 million from its sale of exceptional rough stones.

Lucara Diamond Corp has sold a 224.5-carat gemstone recovered from its Karowe mine in Botswana for $11.1 million, or $49,497 per carat.

The diamond, sold at the miner's second exceptional stone tender of the year, achieved the highest value per carat of the diamonds offered for sale.

In total, the firm generated income of $38.7 million from its sale of exceptional rough stones.

There were 12 single-stone lots with a total weight of 1,098 carats, offered at the tender.

 

The sale saw a 162.3-carat stone selling for $4.9 million, or $30,117 per carat, and an 81.8-carat diamond going for $46,138 per carat.

Meanwhile, five diamonds sold for more than $2 million each.

The diamonds were unearthed at Lucara’s Karowe mine which was also where the 1,109-carat Lesedi La Rona rough diamond, the second largest in history, was found in November 2015.
