De Beers Reports Sales of $520M For 6th Sight

De Beers' sales have been dropping since the start of the year when inventory build-ups led to robust sales.

Diamond miner De Beers reported that its rough diamond sales (Global Sightholder Sales and Auction Sales) for the sixth sales cycle – or sight – of this year was a provisional $520 million.

The firm also confirmed a final total for the fifth sight of $564 million.

Bruce Cleaver, CEO, De Beers Group, said: “This is an encouraging sales performance for this point in the year, supported by positive sentiment from our customers.

"We maintain a cautious outlook for the remainder of 2016,” he added.

After a powerful start to the year, with almost $2 billion of sales in the first quarter alone, De Beers' sales have been declining largely due to seasonal reasons.
