The event took place from May 22 to 26 in the exchange's rough trading hall.

The Third International Rough Diamond Week that took place last week was successful for buyers and sellers alike.

De Beers, Rio Tinto, Alrosa, Tzoffeys 1818 and other firms held tenders.

Israeli importers who took part in the event reported a great deal of interest.

IDE President Yoram Dvash said he was very pleased with the event and the response from Israeli diamond manufacturers.

Yoram Dvash spoke of his success in having a proposal approved by the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) in Dubai earlier this month relating to Galatea tests of rough stones. His proposal which was passed was that sellers of such diamonds must disclose the fact that a test had been carried out.

He also spoke of the IDE's success in having a motion on the issue of grading reports for synthetic diamonds approved by the WFDB. The motion calls for the WFDB to write to all the gem labs to require them to require that reports for synthetic stones are different to those for natural, mined diamonds. This means that the color and the language used should be different. The GIA has made the changes.

IDE Rough Diamonds Committee Chair Shai Schnitzer spoke of the bourse's success in attracting the major diamond producing firms and others to take part.
