Trading conditions at Antwerp’s four diamond exchanges was normal today though access was restricted following the terrorist attacks in Brussels on Tuesday that killed 34 people.
“The security alert level is maintained, which was instated after the Paris attacks [last November],” Karen Rentmeesters, a spokesperson for the Antwerp World Diamond Centre, told Rapaport News.
“There are no indications whatsoever of a direct threat towards the Antwerp diamond industry.”
Rentmeesters said that the diamond exchanges are only accessible from certain entrances as was the case on Monday following the terror attacks.
The Belgian diamond trade held a minute of silence in solidarity with one held throughout the country on Wednesday.
Belgium's threat level in the country is still at 4, the highest level, after authorities raised it following the attacks, but certain guidance to the public, such as an instruction to stay inside, were eased at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
