Data from the Bank of Botswana showed that the country's rough diamond exports in the first month of the year showed a significant rise from December.
They were also higher than for the whole of the final quarter of last year.
Botswana exported $222.5 million of rough stones in January.
That compares with $31.9 million in December, and $114.1 million for all of the final quarter of last year.
However, despite a rise in demand for rough goods since the start of this year, the $222.5 million for January shows the decline in demand for goods from a year earlier when Botswana's rough exports in the first quarter of 2015 were $985.5 million.
