The comment was made by Diamond Dealers Club of New York CEO David Lasher.
Exhibitors at the event said buyers showed a lot of interest in colored and larger diamonds, according to comments made by David Lasher to Rapaport News.
The Israel Diamond Week ended on Thursday.
"People came ready to buy larger goods for the holiday season and the momentum of the show lasted throughout the week," said Lasher. "The sales helped boost market sentiment in New York," he added.
In addition to colored diamonds, and larger goods, Lasher said there had been larger purchases than of smaller American-type diamonds with at least one transaction being for more than $2 million. One merchant, who wished to remain anonymous, said he found that buyers were looking for "very specific goods at certain prices."
It was the fourth time, since the two exchanges began to cooperate, that the Israel Diamond Week has taken place in New York. The New York Diamond Dealers Club and Israel Diamond Exchange will cooperate again at the next International Diamond Week to be held in Israel from February 14 to 18, 2016.
