The 28th edition of the June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair started today (Thursday), with one of the biggest country pavilions organized by the Israel Diamond Institute (IDI).
The show, which organizers expect to attract thousands of visitors and buyers, is taking place at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).
The fair space has grown once again, and this year is in excess of 70,000 square meters.
Continuing until June 28, the show is hosting 2,233 local and foreign exhibitors from 40 countries and regions.
This year’s trade show features 17 group pavilions from Antwerp, Australia, Brazil, China, Colombia, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, the US and the International Colored Gemstone Association.
There are also theme pavilions such as the Hong Kong Premier Pavilion, Jadeite Gallery, Antique & Vintage Jewellery, Diamonds, Gemstones, Fine Design, Fine Gems, Fine Jewellery, Silver Jewellery, Pearls, Corals and Jewellery Mountings.
The Diamond Pavilion is again one of the biggest diamond showcases in any fair worldwide, with more than 480 diamantaires housed in Halls 3B, C, D and E, JNA reports.
The companies are exhibiting under the banners of the Antwerp World Diamond Centre, IDI, India, South Africa, Thailand and the US. The show also features independent diamond exhibitors.
The 2015 show also has a Stainless Steel Jewellery Pavilion, which houses around 30 exhibitors; a Fashion Jewellery Pavilion, with close to 90 exhibitors; and a Designer Arena, which features about 10 designers from Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Korea and Japan.
Highlighting the Designer Arena, Sunny Chan, deputy fair manager for Jewellery Fairs at UBM Asia, commented, “The arena serves as an international platform for up-and-coming designers who want to connect with industry professionals from around the world.”
Professional buyers may take part in seminars that are going to be held on the sidelines of the show. Russian diamond company Alrosa is also scheduled to hold a diamond auction.
“June is the perfect time for jewelers to restock and update themselves on market trends for the coming seasons. The June Hong Kong Fair’s ideal schedule and Hong Kong’s proximity to jewelry markets such as China and India, and a host of exciting offerings have propelled it to become the most important mid-year jewelry event in Asia,” trade show organizer UBM Asia said.
The June Hong Kong Fair is also held concurrently with the four-day Mineral & Gem Asia, which opens on June 27 at the AsiaWorld-Expo.
