Russians 'Confident of New Botswana Diamond Find'

Botswana Diamonds is working with Alrosa on exploration work in Botswana.

Analysis used by Russian diamond giant Alrosa indicates a new diamondiferous kimberlite would be found in Botswana by Christmas, according to Botswana Diamonds Chairman John Teeling.

Teeling said that Alrosa made use of electrical impulses rather than magnetics and approached solid sampling differently. He was speaking at the thirteenth Botswana Resource Sector Conference.

Teeling said the approach speeded up exploration by bringing mobile mineral-analysis laboratories on to site, Mining Weekly reported.

Alrosa has been working with Botswana Diamonds on several programs, using the technology that helped the Russian company discover 19 diamond mines in Siberia.

“We want to find a kimberlite," said Teeling. "They believe explicitly that they can find a diamondiferous kimberlite and their analysis indicates that they will find a diamondiferous kimberlite by Christmas.”
