Netanyahu Scores Big Victory in Israeli Election

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party won 30 seats in Israel's national elections on Tuesday compared with 24 for the party's nearest challenger, the Zionist Camp.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has led the Likud party to a large win in elections and aims to quickly set up a new government.

In an official statement released early on Wednesday, Netanyahu said: "Reality is not waiting for us. Reality does not take a break. The Israeli people expect us to create a new leadership that will provide them with security and socio-economic changes as we pledged to do, and we will do."

With 99% of the votes counted, the Likud has 30 seats in parliament and leads the Zionist Camp which won 24 seats.

Zionist Camp leader Isaac Herzog said on Wednesday that he spoke with Netanyahu, "I greeted him on his achievement. I wished him success, but make it clear to the citizens of Israel - nothing has changed.

"Therefore Tzipi Livni and I will continue to lead the Zionist Camp as an alternative in every area [of national life]."
