US Online Sales Jump 20% From 2012 On Thanksgiving Day

With the critical holiday season underway in the United States, online sales monitoring firms have started releasing information about sales levels.
U.S. online retail sales rose almost 20 percent on the year on Thanksgiving Day, with an average order value of more than $127, according to IBM Digital Analytics Benchmark which monitors traffic and sales for 800 retail websites.

The monitoring firm said that traffic from mobile devices surged 32 percent from Thanksgiving Day 2012 and accounted for close to 43 percent of total traffic.

Meanwhile, sales generated by mobile devices were about 26 percent of online sales, a significant increase of 49 percent from Thanksgiving Day 2012.

IBM Digital Analytics Benchmark said that among mobile devices, smartphones generated nearly 27 percent of all online traffic while tablets accounted for more than 15 percent.

However, tablet devices accounted for 16.5 percent of Internet sales, which was almost twice the number transacted on smartphones.

Furthermore, the average value of transactions of purchases by tablet device users was $126.49 compared with $110 for smartphone users.
