US Posts Sees Big Jump in Polished Imports in August

US imports of polished diamonds soared 30 percent in August on the year-earlier figure to $1.67 billion.

And the average price per carat also increased sharply – up 11 percent to $1,585.

For the first eight months of this year, U.S. imports of polished diamonds came to nearly $15.9 billion.

Meanwhile, polished exports soared by more than 32 percent on the year in August to almost $1.70 billion. For the first eight months of this year, U.S. exports were close to $13.3 billion.

As for imports of rough goods, they fell by 20 percent in August from a year before to $32 million, while rough exports soared to $39 million.

For January-August, imports of rough goods came to $330 million, while exports of rough stones amounted to $193 million.
