The second fay of the US and International Diamond Week started at 8.30am on Tuesday with start of business in the trading hall. There was a positive atmosphere among exhibitors who said that already on Monday they had closed a number of deals. The presence of almost 600 buyers from 22 countries was felt in the trading hall with brisk activity throughout the day.
Later in the morning, the Israel Diamond Exchange's management held a reception and gala breakfast for members of the delegation from New York and other members of the U.S. industry took advantage of the time to mingle with senior Israeli diamond industry members. Later, a ceremony was held in honor of senior members of the Italian delegation – President of CIBJO – Gaetano Cavalieri and top designer Roberto Coin. New York Diamond Dealers Club President Reuben Kaufman, who celebrated his birthday on Monday was presented with honorary membership of the Israel Diamond Exchange.
Reuben Kaufman said: "Yesterday was my birthday and I could not think of a better gift than to be here today and I really appreciate it. Words alone cannot express my feeling now on receiving honorary membership Israel Diamond Exchange. My feeling is that the market only opened with the US and International Diamond Week and I believe that this trend will continue in the coming season and expresses our great confidence for our product and the market in general. I thank everyone, good signing for the new Jewish year, prosperity and success."
In the afternoon IDE management and board members held a brunch reception for the Italian delegation attended by senior Israeli diamond industry members and other guests. President of the World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO) Gaetano Cavalieri thanked IDE President Yair Sahar and General Manager Moti Besser and said, "For a long time there has been friendship between Israel and Italy because the souls of Israel and Italy are married to each other. The people who are here today represent the friendship between the Diamond State - Israel and Italian jewelry design which is reflected in the work of the designer Roberto Coin."
The second day of the US and International Diamond Week ended with lectures by industry analyst Chaim Even-Zohar who, in his unique way, presented a report about the current state of the global diamond industry and a fascinating lecture by the Head of Quality Assurance at GIA - Tom King on colored diamonds.
