India Posts Rise in Polished Diamond Exports in July
Figures show Indian diamond industry surging forward, however high polished imports likely due to companies sending goods for IIJS at start of August.
The Indian diamond industry posted a 51 percent surge on the year in exports of polished diamonds to $1.57 billion in July, according to interim figures from the Gems & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).
Polished exports jumped by 37.8 percent to $6.65 billion in the April-July period.
In the polished imports category, there was a rise of 86.7 percent to $549.0 million in July, and by 28.5 percent to $4.38 billion for the fiscal year so far.
Indian rough diamond imports surged 39.4 percent to $1.68 billion last month, and rose 29.0 percent to $6.61 billion in April-July.
As for rough exports, they soared by 70.4 percent in July to $140.7 million, while in the April-July period they climbed by 47.1 percent to $629.1 million.
