Christie’s Hong Kong Holding First Online Jewelry Sale
Christie’s Hong Kong Holding First Online Jewelry Sale
Could major auction house Christie’s first-ever online-only jewelry sale be the start of a new trend in jewelry auctions?
In a first for auctioneer Christie’s, its Hong Kong branch will be holding an online-only jewelry sale.
The sale will open for bidding on September 19 and run through to October 3.
The Hong Kong Jewels sale will feature in excess of 90 lots including diamonds, colored stones, cultured pearls, jadeite and watches, with the majority of the pieces coming from one private collection.
The stand-out items are likely to be a ruby and diamond pendent necklace with a pre-sale estimate of $7,500-$10,000; an emerald and diamond necklace with matching ear pendants estimated at $10,000-$15,000; and a set of cultured pearl, diamond and ruby necklace, ring and ear clips, with a pre-sale estimate of $10,000-$15,000.
The sale will also see the first online auction of jadeite jewelry pieces, including carved jadeite items, diamond pendants, a jadeite bangle and jewelry set with jadeite, enamel, ruby and diamonds.
Christie’s says it has made a significant commitment to building an e-commerce platform for the past two years and has piloted many online-only sales, including the first Internet-only auction for Chinese works of art, which was held in July.
