Jean-Marc Lieberherr Appointed to Head Rio Tinto Diamonds

Mining giant Rio Tinto has named Jean-Marc Lieberherr as the head of its diamond business – Rio Tinto Diamonds.
He will start as Managing Director, Diamonds, on September 1. The new posting gives him responsibility for all of Rio Tinto Diamonds.

Lieberherr has worked for Rio Tinto Diamonds since 2005, most recently in the position of Chief Commercial Officer.

Lieberherr's appointment is part of a restructuring of the firm which decided in April to retain its diamond operations.

Also as part of the restructure, diamond mining operations have been consolidated under Kim Truter who takes over from Lieberherr as Chief Operating Officer.

Truter is Managing Director of the Argyle diamond mine in Australia, and was previously President of the Diavik diamond mine in Canada. Rough goods from the Diavik mine are being shown in Israel for the first time as part of the August 26-29 US & International Diamond Week.
