Russian diamond mining giant Alrosa has reported a 16-percent increase in production on the year for the second calendar quarter to 9.627 million carats.

The increase in production was led by its Aikhal underground mine hitting its target capacity, as well as by Alrosa's purchase of the OJSC Nizhne-Lenskoye operation, and better grades at its Jubilee pipe, the firm said.
