In Sudden Announcement, GIA's Donna Baker Resigns

Donna Baker, the President and CEO of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), has resigned "due to differing views on the direction of GIA".
No further details were given about the surprise decision by the Board of Governors which announced it.

GIA Board Chair Susan M. Jacques, President and CEO of Borsheims Fine Jewelry and Gifts, will be interim President and CEO while the board carries out a search for its new top executive.

Tom Moses, Senior Vice President of Laboratory and Research will continue supervising all of the GIA’s laboratory operations worldwide.

Similarly, Bev Hori, Vice President of Education and Chief Learning Officer, will continue to lead GIA’s gemological and industry education efforts.

The GIA added that no other management changes were anticipated.
