Jadeite Ring Sets Auction Record at Christie’s
A jadeite ring by designer Anna Hu called Orpheus comfortably beat its pre-sale estimate at Christie's Magnificent Jewels Auction in Hong Kong.
The ring was bought for $2.59 million, which was almost six times more than its pre-sale estimate of $500,000, and was also a record for a Chinese contemporary jewelry artist.
The ring is set with a 45.39-carat emerald green jadeite cabochon and is surrounded by pavé diamonds.
A briolette emerald drop, shaped like a note, hangs down and provides an echo of Hu’s background as a classically trained cellist. The ring also features yellow and pink diamonds set in 18K white, pink and yellow gold.
