Alrosa diamond auction sales official says sales in Israel may be expanded in 2014

The auction sales manager of Russian diamond mining giant Alrosa, Vladimir Lakiv, said during a tour of the trading hall at the US/International Diamond Week that the firm may expand its diamond sales activity in Israel in 2014.
Lakiv, who was accompanied on a tour of the trading hall by Israel Diamond Exchange President Yair Sahar and Ekaterina Brizna, the manager of Alrosa's sales subsidiary in Israel, Arcos, made the comments just minutes ago.

Lakiv, who said he was enormously impressed by the scale of activity at the Diamond Week where more than 200 foreign buyers are inspecting more than $1 billion of polished goods on offer from in excess of 150 Israeli diamond firms, stopped and spoke to many of the diamantaires taking part in the event.

Lakiv told us that Alrosa was extremely pleased with the results of the auctions that it carries out at the Israel Diamond Exchange. "The Israel Diamond Exchange has many large diamond firms, and we have been doing business with dozens of IDE members for many years.

"We are very pleased to have auctions in Israel because we believe the potential here is very good. This year, we will hold three auctions of large diamonds of 10.8 carats and larger. It is safe to assume that in light of this strong potential, the number of auctions that Alrosa will hold in Israel will rise, though this is a decision that will be taken at head office in Moscow."
