India Posts Surge in Polished Diamond Exports in October
India's exports of polished goods in October continued the trend seen in this fiscal year so far of strong rises
The Indian diamond and jewelry industry recorded a 55.6-percent rise on the year in polished diamond exports for October to $2.155 billion, the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) said.
Exports of polished diamonds from the sub-continent have soared 36.7 percent to $12.49 billion for the first half of the fiscal year (April to October).
Meanwhile, the country's imports of polished goods jumped 58.4 percent to $585.2 million in October, and have risen 65.5 percent to $3.96 billion in April-October.
In rough diamonds imports dropped 18.3 percent on the year to $1.22 billion last month, but rose 15.3 percent in the April-October period to $9.79 billion.
And exports of rough goods from India jumped 71 percent to $170.1 million, while climbing in the April-October period by 15.8 percent to $979.6 million.
