The September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair, one of the most important diamond industry events, starts today (Wednesday).
The fair is split into two venues, with the AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE), near Hong Kong airport, running from September 11-15.
The AWE hosts exhibitors of diamonds, jewelry raw materials, equipment and packaging. Meanwhile, the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) part of the show, which runs from September 13 to 17, is for exhibitors of finished jewelry.
The September show is expected to attract in excess of 50,000 visitors and 3,500 exhibitors from 48 countries and regions.
The diamond pavilion alone covers in excess of 16,000 square meters, and hosts more than 400 diamond companies, including an Israel Diamond Institute pavilion, as well as diamantaires from India and the United States.
In total, there are diamond companies from 22 countries and regions in the diamond and gemstone pavilions, including from Brazil, China, Colombia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, India Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Poland, Singapore, Spain, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, the United States, and the International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA).
In addition, more than 1,400 Hong Kong companies are exhibiting, making the fair the single largest display of Hong Kong's jewelry.
Furthermore, 1,600 gemstone companies from across the world are exhibiting rough and polished gemstones.
